danig: (KCRF 2010)
It’s the busy time of year where I don’t make time to update LJ. I need to, for myself mostly. I do use it as a personal life archive as much as anything.
Let’s see. Since July:

  • Claire started 7th grade. She made the A volleyball team and is really enjoying it. They lost their first match but played well. She's still in the TAG program and was invited to take the ACT as a 7th grader--pretty cool. She was featured in a front-page article in the local paper http://www.bonnersprings.com/news/2013/sep/04/bonner-seventh-grader-moonlights-stilt-walker/ .

  • Kenzie is learning important life lessons related to roommates and will be moving out of her rental house this month, back to her Dad’s for a while, then is talking about moving to Lawrence with a male friend. We’ll see how that plays out. She’s dealing with loneliness that comes from changing social circles and growing up. Generally she’s okay and I’m doing a much better job of staying out of her business, listening without offering advice, and letting her learn her lessons. She turned 21 and is working at Danny’s bar and grill at the Legends.

  • Matt has his own show this year at KCRF and is going GREAT things. I’m so excited for him there are no words. As a result of his show he’s already been asked to quote a show in NE this winter!

  • I’m working with T’Ger again this year. I love, love, love that gig and am so glad he has me back each year. I’m also serving at the Bawdy Beer Show (formerly the Smoker) and it’s as fun as always. This has been the toughest opening two weekends in a long time. The heat has been horrible. But we've survived and it will get better from here on out!

  • Work is … it got rough for a while. I was supporting 8 people/teams and was running into the wall on a daily basis. After losing 6.5 days to non-stop data entry and watching my regular workload pile up I put my foot down and told my boss I am never doing that again. I put together a proposal asking him to define my job and make the salary match. I have my mid-year review Friday and he is to talk with one of my other supervisors/Exec Dirs this week as they travel together, so I’m looking forward to resolution. Not counting on more money but a clear job description that is communicated to the team will be very helpful. We have a new CMO starting the first of next month so we’ll have a bit of adjustment added to the revolving door that is the marketing department at Applebee’s.

  • 4-H is still there. We made it through the unnecessary drama of the fair. The extension agent (the county wide leader) is retiring at the end of the year. I’m hopeful that will bring positive changes.

  • I’m still going to the gym and feeling good about the progress I’m making in terms of toning and my shape and my abilities to lift. My pants are all getting too big again, which is a good thing because my mid-section is one of my struggle points. I’m frustrated that the scale will. Not. Move. But I just keep doing my best. I didn’t go last week because of the 3 day faire weekend and its toll on me. Will go tonight for a short bit because at 99 degrees and no A/C I won’t last long.

  • Matt is going to the gym regularly, too, and it’s REALLY showing. He’s down 25 lbs or so and looks ah-maz-ing. He’s also still working with the roller derby.

That’s the basic state of the Dani. Busy busy but that’s how it is. I sometimes just hang for the ride.

I'll start with a smile because I seem to rant and fuss a lot here. Things are actually pretty darn good even with my gripes.
nothing unusual here )

Had a great weekend!

Reported to the booth my typical 15 minutes late. Wore a kilt for the first time in my life and, Boy!, are they comfy! Spent a busy morning with T'Ger and Alex. I love my job! I get to flirt with and dress men all day and I get paid for it. How could it be any better? People were generally pleasant and fun and we all seem to work well together. I feel like we had a very productive day. Was propositioned by two attractive and fun couples--led to lots of speculation. It's not for me at this point in my life...but I'll happily admit I'm flattered. Owe Toy many favors for cracking me back into place Sat end of day. I've been whiney and grumpy, carrying a headache for months and now I'm much better, although all the toxins I've been carrying are fighting to get out and I'm stuffy and miserable.

a rather interesting encounter )

Sunday I went to church with Claire then home for a quick lunch, costume change and out to faire for the afternoon. Read more... )

After faire Sun I was able to go to my friend T's and visit her new son, Carlos. He came home Sunday and is doing great. He is soooo tiny--only 5 lbs 1.5 oz. We sorted and put away clothes (that kid doesn't need clothes til he's about 2 years old!), I held the baby for a while, and then took Claire to her Nana and Papa's since we all had to work Monday.

Monday was good. Slower, but good. Was fun and much appreciated to have Madam's women taking time from their nibblies to attend our customers as we put them in tights and paraded them out to the lanes. Read more... )

Oldest child seems to be doing okay working at faire. She's apparently picked out a new 14 year old male to crush on. Not sure if he's working or just hanging out at faire. We'll see what next weekend holds.

Didn't sleep last night. At all. My allergies are kicking my ass. I'm taking my drugs but haven't been taking them regularly enough long enough to have any defense built up. Combined with the body flushing the crap from my back being out of place and I think I got about 3 hours of pieced together sleep last night. I'm exhausted. And I look like hell with puffy eyes complete with matching bags.

But tomorrow is a new day and this weekend was a positive one. Matt had good shows, has gained one more piece of confidence in his ability, received many compliments from friends and strangers alike, and we got some snuggle time. All in all--a success!

ow...ow...ow

That's the sound of me falling off the wagon. I've been doing great at drinking my water and not drinking soda every day. I've mostly beaten the caffeine addiction monster.

Not today. This morning calls for a full-on Pepsi and some goldfish crackers for breakfast. Ugh.

I'm not losing weight like I was and need to get my lazy butt out of bed in the mornings and walk. I will. I promise. As soon as I go to the chiropractor and get myself aligned so that I can sleep. Last night I slept so hard that I dreamed about sleeping. The problem is, I'm either not sleeping more than an hour at a time or I'm dreaming all night, so my sleep isn't particularly restful. That will soon change--as I will have a bit of extra cash after the weekend (I hope!) to spend on chiropractor.

I'm looking forward to faire this year. I'll be working in a well-known booth with people I really enjoy. --You know the one. It's above the swill pond and has bubbles coming from it. Stop and say hi.

I have to go out tomorrow after work and decide what I'm wearing since the booth boss likes his workers to wear off the rack. I have entire closets full of costumes, but only a couple of pieces of his work. Since he does mostly menswear I may become a crossdresser for this run. I'm also a little concerned because he does lots of one-size-for-everyone and that doesn't always work on my 5'2" frame. I have some of his girl-tights but they're solid black so I doubt the boss will want me to wear them because a) he only does girl-tights on special order and b) they're solid color and he only does solid color on special order and doesn't really like to do solids at all. I just don't much care for women in men's tights. To me it looks silly. I'll try tights with a short chemise (my own) and a doublet and see what kind of shape it creates. I could also do tie pants with a bodice, maybe. (anyone have other suggestions?) My booth co-worker suggested Japanese but that's not my favorite style. We'll see...I'm just a skirt and bodice kind of girl. I'm sure it will work out.

I'm also bummed that I won't be able to wear my new gown unless I go out to play. But that's okay. I have to get it grommetted anyway--after putting the bodice back together because Matt was kind enough to point out that I had put the backs on in reverse. Duh. I'm sure there will be days I want to go out to play (at least I think there will).

My To-Do List:
because no one cares )
Guess I'll try to manufacture some real job work. It's oddly quiet in here today. Need to drop an email to R and let her know I'm alive--once I get started typing to her it turns into a novel.

Off to work.

A good week

1. For the record, my friend R was absolutely right--drinking more water is the key to weight loss. Yes, it's something I *knew* but hadn't put into practice. 8 days and 6 lbs later I've learned my lesson. To R...pppppbbbblllltttt. I love you, and I'll definitely try to solution you mentioned.

2. I had a day off work yesterday. A whole day. That may not mean much to you all, but I am the only full-time employee at my office so getting a whole day is not a common occurrence. What did I do with it? mundane running around )

3. This is Kenzie's first year in 4-H and she's showing rabbits. only of interest to those who've experienced 4-H )

We've been looking for that "thing" for Kenzie for quite a while. That "thing" that she is truly interested in, that she will work at bettering because she wants to do well in. I think this may be it. She worked hard at learning the showmanship procedure and wanted to do well. I will cultivate it as much as possible and we'll see. There's so much to be learned from 4-H...

4. I had a great chuckle yesterday at the faire office. Carla (head of Foodland) hired me when I was 14. We shared an old moment when she realized I now have a 14 year old. She says it's hard to see 2nd generation kids coming through, but it's also a good thing because most of them have been raised around the faire so they're not totally green. another example of how KCRF works behind the scenes )

All in all, it's been a good week so far. Some much needed rain, a welcome break in the heat, a successful county fair, a studly husband, 6 lbs off the scale. My house is a disaster and I have the living room floor covered in sewing projects until I finish my new bodice, skirt and hat (this weekend, Matt, I promise!)--but it's nothing that can't be fixed in short order.

Sigh. It's good to be me.
