I need to construct a bag to wear while I'm in garb. I generally carry a basket (and it's usually full of decadent goodies if ya'll remember) but occasionally I need to have my hands free and a bag would be wonderful. I have my belt bag and love it, but I need something that will hold 9x12 size items. (I'm specifically planning for the JRF fundraiser but I will use it other times, also.)

Is a shoulder bag appropriate, worn across the body? or should it be more like an apron and tie about the waist? or am I delusional and should find some other method of keeping my crap near at hand? I have tons of fabric and the ability to make it I just need some input as to style...

What are you thoughts?
Thanks!

ETA: While I'm begging advice, I'm still looking for a feather hatband for my cavalier hat. I'd like real feathers, fairly thick but not terribly long. To be honest I can make almost anything work but I haven't found a length of feathers that will work. They're either cheap boas that will be destroyed the first time sprinkles fall or a single flat layer that doesn't have enough body for what I want.

This damn sewing project will...not...end. Thank God I married a man who can sew. And thank my husband for a) putting up with me and this project and b) helping the last two nights.

I apparently underestimated the amount of time it would take to make these six stupid orphan costumes. Well, not so much the amount of time to make them, but I didn't allow for so much time ripping or for finding ways to get it done in an already busy life.

*sigh* GRRRRRR )

Curtain rises at 7:30 tomorrow night and we'll be there. I'm excited to see Kenzie in her part. She's had lots of fun with this.

In other news:
~Kenzie now has a "thing" for a senior who's playing Daddy Warbucks in the musical. Dumb me--I asked a couple of weeks ago if she liked him and was assured she didn't. He's dropped her off at the house a few times and picked her up to take to rehearsal Monday when they were out of school. (against my own rule about letting her ride with a teenage driver.) Now I find out she's interested in him. *Smacks own forehead* NOT gonna happen.

~Her knee is almost back to normal. Guess she just needed a doctor to tell her she was okay.

~If she doesn't have 3 zeros assignments turned in by 5pm tomorrow she will be turning in her cheerleading uniform. Sad but true.

~Claire is in the top reading and top math groups in her kindergarten class. The teacher sent home a packet of 1st grade math for her to do for "fun" and she loves to sit down and do page after page. She's got basic addition and subtraction down. She loves to read and it's making us crazy cuz she wants to read and spell everything--and I mean everything.

~I am not taking on ANY new projects until after Hawaii. Between my Home Interiors shows that are popping up out of the blue,4-H stuff, work and the holidays around the corner I need to focus on the family. No New Commitments (you heard it hear first, Matt).

~HAVE to clean the house. In-laws coming for Thanksgiving. Plus it's just yucky.

~Bought our airline tickets for our Hawaii vacation in February. Can we leave now???

That's it for today. We'll see if I get any sleep tonight and what tomorrow holds.

Comments, suggestions, ideas?

I'm making 6 orphan costumes for "Annie". My sewing machine doesn't have a buttonholer so I'm looking for the best solution for closing the dresses. The costume is a high-waisted dress with back bodice closure, a pinafore- also back bodice closure and bloomers/pantaloons.

I considered hooks and eyes but honestly don't want to devote the time to sewing a million hooks and eyes by hand. I'm already tired of this project--I had so little notice to get them done I'm spending 2-5 hours a night trying to bust them out. Each one is going to take about 6 hours to complete and the play is next Wednesday! They wanted them today--HA!

So--I'm wondering if velcro might be my friend in the situation.

Any other ideas?

Thanks a million!

Oh friends list---if I were to be considering the purchase of a serger, what machine would you suggest? Keep in mind that I am not independently wealthy, nor do I want to take out a loan for a sewing machine.

Thanks!
